President

Sara Calvert is currently a junior at Centennial High School. Outside of student leadership, she loves playing volleyball, hanging out with her friends, being a part of the CHS theatre department, and being a part of CHS Model UN. She's been a part of HCASC for four years now, and is really excited for another great year! If you have any questions or ideas, she would love to hear from you.
Vice-President
Mishiel Ayub is currently a senior at River Hill. Her involvement in many other community youth groups such as Voices for Change, HC Drug Free, and Leadership Howard County programs inspired her to take part in HCASC. Mishiel's experience in these other groups has helped her gain an understanding of how the county works and how the youth voice can best be heard. As vice president for the 2010-2011 term, she would like to ensure that HCASC serves as an efficient mouth piece to the county government and other important adults in the community. Mishiel look forward to this task and hopes to affect positive change for the youth in Howard County this year.

Connie Chen is a current junior at River Hill High School, where she is active in the student government, serving as Vice President and former Felix Simon Awards Coordinator. She enjoys being involved at her youth group, and several other community and charity-oriented organizations, such as RHHS's Red Cross Club, Leadership U, and FIRN. She also plays piano, viola, and guitar in her free time. Connie looks forward to broadening HCASC's communication between Howard County schools and would LOVE for you to join and get involved in HCASC-come to the next meeting!

Michelle Chang is currently a senior at Centennial High School. Outside of HCASC, she participates in many clubs and activities at her school, especially in the art department, and runs the county-wide Youth Environmental Coalition. She is very interested in environmental initiatives, and was the Environmental Affairs Coordinator this past year for HCASC. She looks forward to spending a fun senior year with all of you.

Jessica Qiu is currently a freshman at Centennial High School. She loves being involved withStudent Council work because she knows it can make a real change and have a real effect. Being President on Burleigh Manor Middle’s Student Council was her first experience and she fell in love with it from the very first meeting. That year she helped host the Maryland Association of Student Council’s annual convention in Ocean City. This past summer she attended the National Association of Student Council’s annual conference in Indianapolis and went to Maryland Leadership Workshop’s Senior High Workshop. Outside of her Student Council work, Jessica is a year round swimmer on CAA Clippers. She is also an artist in the Howard County GT art program and a solo pianist.

Asmi Panigrahi will be serving as the HCASC Recruitment Director for the 2010-2011 school year. She is currently a junior at Atholton High School, where she isinvolved in Student Government and Student Leadership Cadre. Asmi also plays violin in the AHS Chamber Orchestra. Outside of school, she swims for the Columbia Aquatics Clippers. Asmi has been learning Indian Classical Dance for that past eight years. She feels lucky to have a wonderful family and awesome friends, and loves to spend time with them.She has always enjoyed visiting new places and meeting new people. As Recruitment Director, Asmi hopes to enhance the accessibility of HCASC to Howard County student leaders at their respective schools, and to highlight the role of HCASC as a great resource to all types of student groups. Asmi is looking forward to a great year working with the HCASC team as well as students across Howard County. She hopes to see you at our meetings!
State Legislative Affairs Coordinator

Joey Milici is currently a junior at River Hill High School, where he is the SGA Executive Board Secretary. He also spends a lot of time with that MASC(the state wide SGA), where he also serves as their State Legislative Affairs coordinator. Outside of student leadership, he enjoy playing ice hockey, running, he runs cross country, indoor and outdoor track, hanging out with friends, and singing opera. He is really excited to be able to work with the Maryland House of Representatives to express the student voice and is looking forward to a great year! If you have any questions about what he is doing or any ideas for legislation that HCASC or MASC should take a stand on because they affect students in Howard Country or Maryland please e-mail him.

Katherine Yu is currently a sophomore at River Hill High School. She will be serving as the Parlimentarian for the Howard County Association of Student Council's 2010-2011 school year. She is very involved with leadership in school and out school. In school, she went from her 2013 student government representative to the school improvement team coordinator on the executive board student government at River Hill. Out of school she is involved in this organization called Care-Line, which is an organization mainly made up of Koreans that help students become better leaders in their community. Outside of this leadership work, Katherine also participates in activities such as the River Hill Cross Country team and the Red Cross Club. She has been playing violin for 7 years and viola and guitar for 1 year. She loves to be with her friends and help others.
Health and Social Issues Coordinator

Destanee Hamilton is currently a freshman at Centennial High School. Leadership is something that she has always believed is important in communities, especially within schools. She has attended a Junior National Young Leader’s Conference, served on the Burleigh Manor student council as parliamentarian 2009-2010, was previously the second vice president of HCASC, and previously a Maryland Association of Student Councils executive board member. Her goals for HCASC this year are to increase student involvement in the organization, promote community service, and find different community service projects for HCASC to be apart of and promote. Destanee enjoys getting involved in many activities whether it is volunteering, playing guitar, or exploring photography. She looks forward to a great year and would love to hear your ideas!
Public Relations Manager

Grace Chao is currently a junior at Centennial High School. She is actively involved in an array of different clubs and activities within her school and community, including Project Sunshine, Ellicott City Tutors, and CLAWS (Common League for Animal Welfare Society), where she serves as the public relations representative. Grace also enjoys playing volleyball, participating in her school orchestra, and spending time with her friends and family. As one of two public relations managers for HCASC this year, she strives to find innovative and effective ways to bring students together and help spread the word about this organization and the things that it does with all kinds of leaders in the area. Grace loves having the opportunity to network, meet new people, and find out what students are doing in the community, so feel free to email or contact her via Facebook if you have any ideas, suggestions, or if you would like to get the word out about what youth leaders are doing in the county! She is looking forward to a great year working with the students and officers here at HCASC.

Kurt Anderson is currently a Junior at River Hill High School. He is involved with a variety of Howard County Youth Groups including Voices for Change and additionally maintains HCYouth.org. Outside of Howard County Youth Organizations, Kurt is heavily involved in River Hill's Student Government Association and Future Business Leaders of America. He currently serves as the RHFBLA Local Chapter Vice-President and River Hill SGA Technical Director. He cannot wait to work with you all in the 2010-2011 school year. Environmental Affairs Coordinator
Katherine Chao is currently a freshman at Centennial High School. Student government and leadership is something that she has always loved, and she enjoys being involved in such a wonderful experience. She believes that it can make a real difference, and improve the community as a whole. Past experiences include being voted onto the Burleigh Manor Middle School Student Council as Vice President, serving as part of the host staff for the Maryland Association of Student Council's convention held in Ocean City, attending middle school and high school student leadership workshops, and attending the National Association of Student Council's conference in Indianapolis, Indiana this past summer. Katherine has many goals planned for this year, and outside of HCASC, she is an avid artist, loves to excel in school and extracurricular activities she takes on, and volunteers frequently.
Environmental Affairs Coordinator

Kathleen Hupfeld, currently a junior at Atholton High School, is extremely excited to be participating in her first year as a member of HCASC. She is on her high school’s SGA Executive Board, is co-president of her school’s Model UN club, and actively volunteers with her church youth group. She also plays varsity volleyball for Atholton and volunteers with the Howard County Special Olympics volleyball program. She welcomes any suggestions about environmental initiatives for the county and looks forward to a great, productive year!
